Skagen Falster 2 WearOS Watch – 48% Off
If you’re on the lookout for an affordable WearOS smartwatch, Best Buy Canada is taking $90 off the Skagen Falster 2 right now. (Non-affiliate link)
Yes, it says sale ends March 19, 2020 – but they often extend these things if they don’t sell as many as they hope to.
UPDATE (3/20): To my surprise, they DID end the sale last night. Sorry, this deal is over.
As I posted last year, I still love my old Moto360 1st gen – but it’s showing its age in several ways.
First it was the battery life. I replaced that last year with a NOS (new old stock) from eBay for $21. It’s served me well. Still holds up okay through the day.
Later last year, the LCD started failing. It has some big blocks of dead pixels now, with a few more showing up week by week.
I’ve been watching for a good WearOS deal for many months now, and just shy of 4 years to the day, I’m upgrading the ol’ 360. (Also a Best Buy big discount sale – March 30, 2016. It was in my order history when I placed the order for the Skagen.)
A lot of the reviews are mixed. Lots of complaints about lag, mostly. But – HELLO! I’m used to lag with this old watch!
The big jump will be the Snapdragon Wear 2100 – multiple generations more advanced than the TI OMAP in the 360. Yes, the 3100 is out there – basically the same chip with better battery optimizations. Still, side-by-side demos with the Falster 3, using the 3100, showed near identical performance between the two – with the older 2100 chip winning the race a lot of the time.
Honestly, I believe the WearOS lags are just inherent in WearOS itself, not the hardware. Firmly believe that.
Anyway, I should have the Falster 2 on my wrist by the end of the day tomorrow. I’m looking forward to the upgrade, and seeing what WearOS 2.x is like vs. 1.4 (based on Android 6.0.1). I hope it holds up as well as the Moto has over the years.
